The 4-inch IPS panel shows 720 x 720 pixels, the same square screen size as the R36 Max. A 4:3 game shown without stretching keeps its proportions, with unused space above and below. Display options depend on the firmware.
The chip is the RK3326 with 1 GB of RAM, like the R36S. What the Ultra adds is the square screen and built-in Wi-Fi, which can serve for file transfers, cover art or updates, depending on the firmware.

R36 Max or R36 Ultra: which one?
Both have a 4-inch 720 x 720 square screen and the RK3326 chip. The R36 Ultra adds built-in Wi-Fi. The R36 Max has the bigger battery, 4,000 mAh against 3,000 mAh listed for the Ultra. The R36 Max is on sale at FunGrip now.
Does the R36 Ultra have Wi-Fi?
Yes, built-in 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Depending on the firmware, it can serve for file transfers, cover art or updates. It does not bring online multiplayer or Bluetooth.
Is the R36 Ultra the same as the R36 Ultra X?
No. The R36 Ultra has a 4-inch square 720 x 720 screen. The R36 Ultra X has a 4.5-inch 1024 x 768 screen in 4:3, two speakers on the back and a vibration motor.
Which games can the R36 Ultra play?
The RK3326 chip is at home with 8-bit and 16-bit home consoles, classic arcade and many early 32-bit games. Heavier 3D systems depend a lot on the game and the firmware. The games are yours to load, from files you have the right to use.
